About Christine Low
Christine is a key member of Peter’s team and has been involved in the firm’s high-profile public interest litigation and criminal litigation. Christine also handles corporate and commercial advisory matters for private clients and companies. Christine joined Peter Low & Choo LLC in late 2011. Prior to 2011, Christine had been mentored by Peter while working as one of his Legal Executives since late 2006.
Professionally, Christine has served on the Council of the Law Society of Singapore from 2016. She has served in varying capacities on several sub-committees of the Law Society of Singapore, including the Young Lawyers’ sub-committee and Alternative Dispute Resolution sub-committee. Christine is currently Co-Chairperson of the Small Law Firms sub-committee.
Christine also sits on the Ambassador Council of the University of Queensland, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law.
Her experience includes:
- Acting in contested and uncontested matrimonial proceedings for private clients, both locals and expatriates, including proceedings with cross-border elements and proceedings involving matrimonial assets worth over $10 million;
- Acting in the defence of an accused person in the so-called “Yishun fatal assault” case (2018 to 2020);
- Acting in the defence of the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol-East Town Council against a charge preferred by the National Environment Agency (2014 to 2015);
- Assisting in the defence of the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol-East Town Council in an application by the Ministry of National Development (2015);
- Acting in the defence of an accused person involved in the so-called “Bras Basah rioting incident” at Hotel Rendezvous (2014 to 2015);
- Acting in a representative action for a group of financial consultants in a dispute involving their employment contracts and wrongful termination;
- Assisting in the criminal defence of Brother Anthony Tan (a member of a Catholic religious order) and the former principal of a top Singapore school against a Criminal Breach of Trust charge (2012 to 2013);
- Assisting in the criminal defence of Tey Tsun Hang, a law professor of the National University of Singapore in the so-called “sex-for-grades” corruption case (2012-2013);
- Assisting in the criminal defence of Koh Li Ping, an ex-national table tennis player against a Criminal Breach of Trust charge (2012 to 2013);
- Assisting in the criminal defence of He Jun Ling, one of four bus drivers from Peoples’ Republic of China employed by Singapore Mass Rapid Transport who went on strike (2012);
- Assisting in the constitutional challenge by Gary Lim and Kenneth Chee, a gay couple in their challenge (in the High Court) that the law criminalizing sex between men violates the non-discrimination provision in the Constitution (2012 to 2013);
- Assisting in the criminal defence of Johnson Chong, a director of a public listed company [Airocean Group Limited] against charges of insider trading, reckless failure to disclose material information to SGX and making an announcement that was misleading in a material particular on SGXNET (2010);
- Assisting in several High Court suits involving aviation contracts, shareholder disagreements and other contractual disputes;
- Assisting in the defence of Richard Yong and Loo Say San, the former Chairman and Treasurer of the National Kidney Foundation respectively in both civil and criminal cases (2007);
- Assisting in the defence of Dow Jones-owned Far Eastern Economic Review when sued for defamation by (then) Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (2007 to 2010); and
- Acting in general and contested probate matters.
Christine believes in giving back to the community and volunteers with various Community Legal Clinics. Christine has also been invited to conduct seminars on divorce and family matters for non-profit organisations.
Christine enjoys working with youths. From 2012 to 2014, Christine volunteered as a Panelist – and subsequently qualified as Senior Panelist – with the National Youth Council’s Young Change Makers Scheme (YCM), which allowed her the opportunity to work with, mentor and positively impact youths in their pursuit of projects that benefit the community.
Professionally, Christine has served on the Council of the Law Society of Singapore from 2016.
