About Priscilla Chia
Priscilla joined Peter Low & Choo LLC in 2016.
She assists in the firm’s high-profile public interest litigation and is involved in front-line contentious litigation for civil and commercial disputes, criminal defence, and in international arbitration proceedings.
Priscilla’s experience includes:
- Acting for a Singapore subsidiary of an international private-equity firm against a director for breaches of duties in the High Court of Singapore (2021);
- Acting for a local renowned engineering company and its directors in a shareholder dispute in the High Court of Singapore (2021);
- Assisting with a constitutional challenge of s 377A of the Penal Code, which criminalises acts of gross indecency between two men (2021);
- Acted in a landmark case where the Court of Appeal held that the Prosecution is under a duty to disclose to the Defence the statement of a witness who can be expected to confirm or, conversely, contradict the accused person’s defence in material respects (2020);
- Acted for a senior employee of an investment firm in respect of an investment claim before the High Court of Singapore (2020);
- Acted for two senior employees of a fintech company against a claim in conspiracy in respect of their involvement in an alleged Ponzi Scheme in the High Court of Singapore (2020);
- Defending an editor of an alternative media website charged with criminal defamation under the Penal Code (2020);
- Acted for a socio-political activist involved in the first prosecution under the Administration of Justice (Protection) Act 2016 (2020);
- Acted for a Dubai-based company in an international arbitration involving a claim of infringement of copyright by a Chinese multinational company listed on the New York Stock Exchange (2019);
- Acted for a senior employee against a spyware maker based in Italy in an employment dispute in the High Court of Singapore (2019);
- Acted for a member of the Singapore Democratic Party in an application to compel the Prime Minister to call a by-election for Marsiling Yew-Tee GRC (2019); and
- Acted for a Vietnamese tycoon in an injunction against the Commissioner of the Immigration & Checkpoints (2018).
Outside of legal practice, Priscilla invests her time in non-profit and public interest work. She is a long-time volunteer with Aware Singapore, a gender equality non-profit organisation.
