About Sylvia Lim Swee Lian

Sylvia is a Counsel in Peter Low Chambers LLC. Her main areas of interest include Criminal Procedure, Criminal Litigation and Constitutional Law.

Sylvia started her career in the Singapore Police Force as a police inspector, handling investigation work at the Central Police Division Headquarters and subsequently working as a staff officer under the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Upon leaving the Force, Sylvia entered private practice, handling both civil and criminal cases in the Court of Appeal, High Court and Subordinate Courts. Sylvia later joined Temasek Polytechnic as a lecturer on the Diploma in Law and Management course, and was concurrently appointed the Manager of Professional Development and Manager of Continuing Education and Training at the polytechnic’s School of Business.

In 2011, Sylvia re-entered front-line practice with Peter Low Chambers LLC, bringing to the Bar a breadth of knowledge and experience in criminal law and law enforcement, academia and legal practice. Sylvia has been a contributor to the volume on Criminal Procedure for Halsbury’s Laws of Singapore, a legal practitioners’ reference series, and has also collected and published primary research on private security in Singapore.

Sylvia is also the first female chairperson of a major political party in Singapore, and a serving Member of Parliament for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency.
