About Christine Low

Christine Low joined Peter Low Chambers LLC in 2011 and has been actively involved in the firm’s high-profile public interest and criminal litigation cases. Christine has accumulated valuable experience across the full spectrum of the firm’s practice areas.  Christine also handles corporate and commercial advisory matters for private clients and companies.

Since 2016, Christine has served on the Council of the Law Society of Singapore on various sub-committees, including the Young Lawyers’ sub-committee and Alternative Dispute Resolution sub-committee. She is currently Co-Chairperson of the Small Law Firms sub-committee.

Christine also sits on the Ambassador Council of the University of Queensland, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. She strongly believes in giving back to the community and has volunteered as a Panelist and Senior Panelist with the National Youth Council’s Young Change Makers Scheme (YCM). This has allowed her the opportunity to work with, mentor and positively impact youths in their pursuit of projects that benefit the community. Christine also volunteers with various Community Legal Clinics and has been invited to conduct seminars on divorce and family matters for non-profit organisations.

Christine’s notable cases include:

Public Interest Litigation

    • Defended the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol-East Town Council against a charge preferred by the National Environment Agency (2014 to 2015).
    • Defended the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol-East Town Council in an application by the Ministry of National Development: Attorney-General v Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council [2016] 1 SLR 915; [2015] SGCA 60.
    • Acted in the constitutional challenge of section 377A of the Penal Code (repealed), which criminalised sex between men: Lim Meng Suang and another v Attorney-General [2013] 3 SLR 118; [2013] SGHC 73.
    • Defended Dow Jones-owned Far Eastern Economic Review when sued for defamation by (then) Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong: Review Publishing Co Ltd and another v Lee Hsien Loong and another appeal[2010] 1 SLR 52; [2009] SGCA 46.

 Criminal Defence

    • Defended an accused person in the so-called “Yishun fatal assault” case (2018 to 2020).
    • Defended an accused person involved in the so-called “Bras Basah rioting incident” at Hotel Rendezvous (2014 to 2015).
    • Acting in a representative action for a group of financial consultants in a dispute involving their employment contracts and wrongful termination.
    • Defending the former principal (a member of a Catholic religious order) of a top Singapore school against a criminal breach of trust charge (2012 to 2013).
    • Successfully gained an acquittal for Professor Tey Tsun Hang, a former law professor of the National University of Singapore, in the so-called “sex-for-grades” corruption case (2014).
    • Defended an ex-national table tennis player against a criminal breach of trust charge (2012 to 2013).
    • Defended one of four rioters, who were bus drivers from Peoples’ Republic of China employed by SMRT (2012).
    • Defended a director of a public-listed company Airocean Group Limited against charges of insider trading, reckless failure to disclose material information to SGX and making an announcement that was misleading in a material particular on SGXNET (2010).

 Civil & Commercial Litigation

    • Acting for a private client in a cryptocurrency claim in the High Court of Singapore (General Division) (2022).
    • Acting for a shipping company in a shareholder and contractual dispute worth approximately $10 million (2022).
    • Defended the former Chairman and Treasurer of the National Kidney Foundation respectively in both civil and criminal cases (2007).
    • Acted in several High Court suits involving aviation contracts, shareholder disagreements and other contractual disputes.

 Matrimonial Litigation

    • Acted for a Plaintiff-Wife in hotly-contested divorce proceedings, involving multiple injunctions and custody applications, and successfully obtaining a settlement of $4 million (2019 to 2021).
    • Acted for a Wife in heavily contested divorce proceedings, involving cross-applications for interim care and control, interim maintenance, defending several committal applications and global asset tracing in respect of asset division. Successfully obtained a settlement in excess of $4 million. Also acted in contested cross-applications for Personal Protection Orders for the Wife and children of the marriage and contested cross-applications under the Protection of Harassment Act for the same matter. (2019 to 2021)
    • Acting in general and contested probate matters.
