About Nelson Chee

Nelson graduated from the University of Exeter in 2018 and was called to the Bar in 2021.

Prior to joining PLC, Nelson was a Fellow with the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (“CLAS”), which provides pro bono legal assistance to the underprivileged. He is experienced in criminal defence litigation and has defended persons charged under the Penal Code, Road Traffic Act and Misuse of Drugs Act. He is presently a CLAS volunteer.

Nelson assists in the firm’s civil, criminal, commercial and matrimonial litigation practice and has appeared before Judges sitting in the State Courts and the High Court of Singapore. Nelson also handles cases involving probate, wills, trusts and estate administration. Nelson has also been involved in alternative dispute resolutions such as mediation.

Outside of legal work, Nelson volunteers with the Singapore Police Force as a Volunteer Special Constabulary.

Nelson’s experience includes:

 

    • Acting for a former employee of Nanyang Technological University subsidiary in cheating and money-laundering charges
      Acting for a shipping company in a shareholder and contractual dispute worth approximately $10 million
    • Acted for a private client in a cryptocurrency claim in the High Court of Singapore (General Division) (2022)
    • Acting in the criminal defence of a youth accused person who was involved in the sexual violation of his younger sister (2023)
    • Represented an accused who was granted a Discharge Amounting to an Acquittal for a charge of rash act under the Penal Code (2022).
    • Acting in the criminal defence of Tusheintar Segaran who was involved in the armed robbery of a licensed moneylender (2022)
    • Assisting in the criminal defence of Daryati who was involved in the murder after stabbing her employer more than 100 times (2021).
    • Assisting in the criminal defence of Mui Jia Jun who faced the mandatory death penalty for trafficking in controlled drugs for the purposes of trafficking with common intention (2018).
    • Defending Toh Sia Guan who was involved in the “rag-and-bone” Geylang murder before the High Court (2020)
    • Assisted in advising matters involving sale and purchase agreements, loan agreements, non-disclosure agreements, shareholder disputes, contractual disputes; and
    • Acting in contested and uncontested matrimonial proceedings for private clients, involving matrimonial assets worth over $1 million.
