About Elaine Low
Prior to her joining Peter Low Chambers LLC in 2014, Elaine had been an intern under the mentorship of Peter Low since 2007. She is also a solicitor qualified to practise in England & Wales.
Elaine has been actively involved in the firm’s high-profile public interest litigation and front-line contentious litigation for civil disputes, criminal defence and complex matrimonial cases. Her experience in commercial litigation includes shareholder, employment, tenancy and aviation-related disputes. Elaine has also assisted in matters concerning probate and applications under the Mental Capacity Act. She is also experienced in drafting contracts for SMEs and start-up companies.
Elaine believes in all-rounded personal growth and servant leadership. She continues to serve as alumni of Raffles Girls Secondary School and the National University of Singapore alumni as the Class Ambassador of the Class of 2014.
Elaine also believes that legal assistance should be readily accessible and thus volunteers with the Catholic Lawyer’s Guild legal clinic and the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme, which provide pro bono legal advice and representation.

Public Interest Litigation

- Acted for the Singapore Democratic Party in an application to compel the Government to call a by-election for Marsiling Yew-Tee Group Representation Constituency (2018).
- Acted for a Vietnamese politically-exposed individual in filing judicial review and injunction applications against the Government in relation to deportation under the Immigration Act (2018).
- Acted for Aljunied-Hougang Town Council in arbitration with its former Managing Agent (2017).
- Acted for Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol-East Town Council in an application by the Ministry of National Development (2015).
Criminal Defence

- Acting for a former employee of Nanyang Technological University subsidiary in cheating and money-laundering charges (2022).
- Acted for a director against criminal charges for allegedly cheating SMRT into awarding contracts amounting to $10 million (2022).
- Advised an alleged co-conspirator in Tim Leissner’s indictment by the USA Department of Justice in the 1MDB scandal (2019).
- Acted for former senior-ranking official of Keppel Corporation in investigations relating to corruption (2016).
- Acted for a former private banker from BSI Bank Limited involved in the 1MDB scandal (2016).
- Defended one of the accused persons involved in the so-called “Bras Basah rioting incident” (2015 to2016).
- Defended the former principal (a member of a Catholic religious order) of a top Singapore school against a criminal breach of trust charge (2012 to 2013).
- Successfully gained an acquittal for Professor Tey Tsun Hang, a former law professor of the National University of Singapore, in the so-called “sex-for-grades” corruption case (2014).
- Defended a former director of public-listed company Airocean Group Limitedagainst charges of insider trading, reckless failure to disclose material information to SGX and making a misleading announcement on SGXNET (2010).
- Defended the former Chairman and Treasurer of the National Kidney Foundation respectively in both civil and criminal cases (2007).
Civil & Commercial Litigation

- Acting for a shipping company in a shareholder and contractual dispute worth approximately $10 million (2022).
- Acting for a private client in a cryptocurrency claim in the High Court of Singapore (General Division) (2022).
- Acted for the majority shareholders of a property development company against a minority oppression claim under s 216 of the Companies Act worth approximately $450 million (2022). Acted for a multi-national company in the co-working space industry, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, against a former employee (2020).
- Successfully obtained sale proceeds for a judgment creditor in a landmark Court of Appeal decision, which clarified the law on enforcement proceedings against jointly-owned property (2020).
- Acted for the Singapore office of a tech company listed on the Philippines Stock Exchange in a contractual dispute in the High Court (2020).
- Defended two former directors of a private equity firm ina High Court lawsuit and injunction by their former employer relating to alleged breach of confidentiality clauses (2019).
- Successfully settled an employment dispute between a high net-worth individual and family office based in Switzerland against its former employee (2019).
- Acted for a high net-worth individual in property-related dispute in Brunei (2018).
Matrimonial Litigation

- Acted for a Plaintiff-Wife in hotly-contested divorce proceedings, involving multiple injunctions and custody applications, and successfully obtaining a settlement of $4 million (2019 to 2021).
- Assisting in contested and uncontested matrimonial proceedings for private clients, including proceedings with cross-border elements.
