About Usha
Usha graduated from the Singapore University of Social Sciences with a Juris Doctor as part of SUSS’s pioneer cohort and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2021. She also holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London, obtained in 2013, which allowed her to serve as a prosecutor in one of the Ministries. With a strong passion for Family Law, she obtained a distinction in Family Law Practice during Part B of the Bar Examinations in 2020, where she was recognized as the top student in her cohort for Family Law.
Before joining Peter Low Chambers LLC, Usha accumulated over 19 years of diverse experience in the legal industry, including roles as a paralegal, prosecutor, and legal associate. Her extensive experience spans Family Law, Criminal Law, and Civil Litigation. Known for her compassionate and holistic approach, Usha is dedicated to understanding her clients’ needs and advocating for equitable outcomes.
Usha is also a dedicated volunteer, inspired by the ethos of the “Starfish Poem,” believing in making a difference one person at a time. She continues to be an active participant in pro bono initiatives and community work, reflecting her dedication to justice and service.
Notable Experience:
Matrimonial Litigation
- Acted for an Applicant in her Guardianship Proceedings of her grand-nephew, a Chinese national, successfully obtaining the order.
- Represented the Defendant-Wife in a hotly contested Hearing to send her 16-year-old son overseas to study in a boarding school with a view to pursuing a football career.
- Acting for the Defendant husband in the rescission of maintenance to his ex-wife of the sum of S$2,000.00
- Acting in contested and uncontested matrimonial proceedings for private clients, involving matrimonial assets worth over $1 million.
Criminal Defence
- Successfully prosecuted the first Dormitory Operator in Singapore for aiding three companies in breaching work pass conditions by housing foreign workers in overcrowded accommodations, resulting in a fine of S$300,000.
- Successfully represented an accused charged with reckless driving, reducing the charge to driving without due care and attention, and obtained a minimal fine of S$1,000.00 with a six-month disqualification.
- Acted for an accused person charged with Outrage of Modesty (“OM”) and usage of Criminal Force, successfully obtaining a composition on the OM Charge and a discharge not amounting to acquittal on the Criminal Force charges
- Represented clients in various criminal matters, leveraging her prosecutorial experience to deliver effective defence strategies.
Civil & Commercial Litigation
- Acting for a Singapore co-operative in all their debt recovery matters, providing effective legal support to secure outstanding claims.
